About the Regional Public Transport Authority in Norrbotten

The Regional Public Transport Authority in Norrbotten was established on January 1, 2012.

Authority has members from all over Norrbotten, representing the municipalities of Arjeplog, Arvidsjaur, Boden, Gällivare, Haparanda, Jokkmokk, Kalix, Kiruna, Luleå, Pajala, Piteå, Älvsbyn, Överkalix, and Övertorneå. The council of Norrbotten County is also a member.

The Regional Public Transport Authority in Norrbotten has a governing group consisting of 28 individuals, all of whom are politicians. Fourteen members come from the council of Norrbotten County, and the remaining fourteen come from various municipalities in the county. Additionally, there is a smaller group of 9 individuals known as the working committee. They are responsible for making decisions and planning various matters within the Regional Public Transport Authority in Norrbotten.

Mobility service

Mobility service is a complement to public transportation and is governed by the Law (1997:736) on Mobility service.

Mobility service can be granted if you, due to functional impairment, experience difficulties to walk independently or to travel by bus or train. To meet the requirements for mobility service, the duration of your difficulties must be at least three months.

If you require mobility service, you must apply for a permit from The Regional Public Transport Authority in Norrbotten. It usually takes about three weeks to receive a notice. Sometimes it may take longer.

Cost of Mobility service

When traveling with mobility service, you must pay an amount for every trip you take. The amount depends on how far you travel.

If you have been granted mobility service and are traveling with a child aged between 7 and 19, the ticket rate for the child gets reduced by 50%. Children under 7 travel for free when accompanied by you.

Children and youths aged 0 to 19 who have been granted permit for special transportation services also have a reduced ticket rate of 50% of the normal rates.

If you use mobility service for trips to work, school or a day center, you can apply for discounted rates for these trips.

National mobility service

National mobility service is granted if you, due to functional impairment, can not travel at the same expenses as a person without functional impairment. To meet the requirements for national mobility service, the duration of your difficulties must be at least six months.

National mobility service is governed by the Law (1997:735) on National mobility service.

If you require national mobility service, you must apply for each trip you plan to make. You must apply three weeks before your planned trip. If your application is submitted to late or needs to be supplemented, it is not certain that you will get a reply on your application in time before your planned trip.

Cost of National mobility service

When traveling with National mobility service, you must pay an amount for the trip. The amount depends on how far you travel.

The amount is the same regardless of whether you travel by bus, train, plane, car or wheelchair accessible car.
